POP3 is an email protocol that downloads messages from the server to your computer. Messages are usually removed from the server, but you can configure it to keep a copy on the server.
Advantages: The mailbox doesn’t fill up quickly and messages are available offline.
Disadvantages: Messages can only be read on the device where they are downloaded.
IMAP is the recommended protocol if you use email on multiple devices. Messages stay on the server, and changes (e.g., read, deleted messages) sync across all devices.
